When my children started expressing to me that they were embarrassed to be overweight and to have overweight parents
I found myself unable to overlook the fact that we had a health crisis in our family.  I was also very determined to respond to their concerns in a supportive and constructive way.  Having lived a life in which weight struggles led to experiences with bulimia, anorexia, and obesity, I knew that I needed help.  The last thing I wanted for my children to have to deal with in life, on top of the trials life will inevitably put in their path, was to have to doubt themselves because of their appearance.  I also knew that the problem was much more than appearance, it could affect their health and ultimately their own childrens lives if this trend of obesity was not stopped now.  
 
However, I also did not want them to become "dieters" at such a young age. 
 
When I contacted Diana I wasn't sure what to expect.  I always thought that personal trainers were for body builders or the "glamorous people" whose jobs were to look good.  I couldn't have been more wrong.  As Diana explained to me that her mission was to help others to develop a healthy lifestyle to combat heart disease, diabetes, and obesity through good nutrition and fitness, I knew that our family could not walk away from this opportunity.  I never could have imagined the amazing journey that we were about to take.
 
Diana was able to develop a nutrition and exercise program that we could follow as a family that is fun, educational, and unbelievably effective.  The kids have learned how to eat healthily, that physical activity is an amazing family activity to share, and have seen that having a healthy lifestyle is rewarding.  Our workouts are fun for all of us, always new and challenging.  Diana has worked to ensure that we are able to incorporate a fitness routine that is appropriate for each individual and fun for the family as a whole.  Through education and tracking of our weights, body mass, and measurements we are able to see the progress we have made not only in our bodies, but in our use and relationship to food.  The ultimate bonus has been that I have not heard the kids talk about being embarrassed about the appearance of themselves or their parents since we started this journey.
 
As a family, in the past six months, we have lost a total of 140 pounds!!  We have only begun a journey that I am confident will continue for a long time and that will impact our lives forever.  To me, Diana has been a life coach, not just a fitness and nutrition advocate and mentor.  She offers a program that is flexible and that works around the current needs of the individual and/or family.  I would recommend Starrtime fitness to anyone who finds themselves concerned about their health, weight, or fitness.  Our family is living proof that it works!!

I have had problems with my weight since childhood. Growing up in a home where physical activity was not supported and having less-than-healthy food choices contributed to continual weight gain, and by the time I reached adulthood, poor food choices and a sedentary lifestyle were normal for me.
 
As I grew older, I continued gaining weight, and was over 300 lbs. by the time I reached my mid 40s. I was taking medication for high blood pressure, but incredibly that was not a serious signal for me to look at my health and what I was doing 
that affected the vision in my right eye and left me weak on my right side. I was still taking my blood pressure medication, and had added medications for depression and mood management. By that time, my weight had risen to over 340 lbs., but I had still done nothing positive to affect my health or lifestyle.
 
By March of 2010, my weight had risen to 362 lbs. I was finally off my medications, but I had started a fast-paced, high stress job at a trade school that has (unfortunately for me) a culinary program. I took advantage of having food available at all times, and it did not matter that the choices were high in fat, sugar, and calories.
 
About this same time, we met Diana Starr. At first, I was very leery about having a personal trainer and nutritionist "invade" our lives. I imagined that my life would be revolving constantly around exercise and having to eat small portions of non-fat cottage cheese and lettuce until I die. On the other hand, I knew that my family and I had to do something with our lives, or all that we had to look forward to was declining health and the promise of increasing weight.
 
Diana's approach has been to have us examine our family's lifestyle. Yes, there is exercise, and yes, there is an emphasis on sensible eating. But it's so much more than that. Diana is working with us to have a change of attitude and viewpoint. Food is not the focal point of my life anymore. I don't feel deprived of anything, and the food choices available to me are always satisfying. One big difference is that now I am thoughtful about the things I choose to put into my body. Also, the exercise program that Diana has designed for us stresses fitness for the whole person.
 
A couple of weeks ago, my weight fell below 300 lbs. for the first time in years. I know I've got more work ahead of me before I reach my goal, but I now realize that it is a goal that I can reach. The people around me have noticed the difference in how I look and how I move. What's more, I notice the difference, both in how I look and how I feel.
 
Diana's positive attitude and enthusiasm are coupled with years of experience and research. She has had her own struggles with food and fitness, and to me she is an example of what a change in lifestyle can do. I really look forward to my family and I working with Diana as we continue our journey to a happier and healthier life. I feel that with the changes my family and I have gone through in the past few months, life has started all over again--and it's a great life!

Do you have a favorite story from your work?
In the first 12 weeks of starting our program, a family of four in Antelope, has dropped 85 lbs. They love the new transformation
 and how easy it is to adapt to this new life change.
 
What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
I live the life of fitness and it is has always been my dream to help families lose weight and change their lifestyle.
 I have so much passion to help families become healthy and reduce their chances of premature death from heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Stroke, and some Cancers.
 
How did you decide to get in your line of work?
I was an overweight teen and insecure how I looked and felt. During this period of my life, my parent had heart disease and had a triple by-pass. Learning we had heart disease in our family, my purpose was to  understand how nutrition and fitness can reverse and prevent heart disease. In my research and studies, I learned how nutrition and exercise effects a person's physiology, physical, and psychological, state. I wanted  to take it to the next level, and change the lives of others forever.

Diana from Starttime Fitness is as GOOD as it GETS! She is a positive and warm person. The first day I met her, we established such great rapport! She is way down to earth! You will immediately feel comfortable with her!!
 
Her services are affordable, modern, and personalized for you/your families needs. She can work with you in your own home OR wherever you choose. She brings equipment with her and her knowledge on health/nutrition is over the top!
 
My family and I started working with her in February 2011 and to date (July 12, 2011) we have lost a total of 135lbs! I am 5'9 and weighed 162lbs, today I weigh 139lbs! I am extremely active. Before, I could not even go on a walk/go upstairs without being out of breath, now, I can do most anything. I walk at least 10k steps a day. I ride a bicycle, too!
 
My diet consists of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. I have never been as healthy as I am today. My husband has lost 99lbs! I will let him provide his own testimony!
